We bought one of these and now can't imagine being without it. We also had the added headache of trying to share the printer/scanner using USB between two machines. Our color inkjet was ok but it was expensive on black ink and the quality just wasn't there. My wife and I needed a small black/white/grayscale printer for some high-quality labels we wanted to print.

Read full review.Ĭould not be more perfect for the home office.

In short, you can't beat the price and almost pro quality for home use. It's plug and play fantastic, but getting it work wirelessly with my iPad as advertised was not easy and that's where it is only average in features. My only complaint is that setting up the wireless printing is like learning theocratical math, it's not for everyone. This machine feels sturdy, looks good, and if it's like it's big brothers at the office will last for 10+ years. Which brings me back to doing one job well, build quality, and lasting over time. All I can say is if you need those options, then you need to spend the money on a pro machine. Some of the reviews I read when researching complained it doesn't do 11x17 paper and no duplexing (printing both sides in one go).

And it is definitely quiter than our office machines, which is a big plus at home. The speed is not q uite as fast as the pro machine, but for home or home office use it's plenty quick. Printing quality is 99% as good to the naked eye, as our work printers. Also, the trend of the all-in-one machine is nice for some users, but they tend to only do things marginally well, while this one-job laser printer does it very well. This is where you have to keep some perspective on why you are buying this versus a business machine and where some of the reviews I read when researching the P1102, were just plain wrong. So read on and decide for yourself.įor my review purposes I'm comparing it to the HP laser printers we have at work, which are designed for heavy duty use and cost thousands. There are two parts to this review and they are the reason this fabulous little printer barely missed a five star overall rating and is only average in features. Another potential drawback could be the slightly higher price of these printers, but with the technology becoming mainstream, this will cease to be a problem soon.In short, you can't beat the price and almost pro quality for home or use. This could be a drawback for some users, though it should not be a very big one. The only downside that we can see is that you can’t change any options while printing, except the quantity or number of copies to be printed.

This feature was a major part of the update to iOS 4.2, and it allows the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch to print files wirelessly. The lack of many connector ports on the iPad mean that it will never be possible to connect it to a printer physically, but doing so wirelessly is now possible, thanks to Apple’s AirPrint feature. This is a huge improvement for to the iPad, because now it can print documents without the need of transferring it to another device. The ability to connect a printer to a laptop or even sync it with a laptop wirelessly is something that worked in the favor of notebooks, but now the iPad can do this as well. There are very few advantages that laptops have over tablets today (admittedly most of them are insurmountable advantages), but one of these benefits has now been struck down by the iPad. It is also leading to a surge of rival offerings in the tablet market segment, so the future of laptops seems a little bleak at the moment. The iPad may look like a giant iPhone, but make no mistake about it, it is slowly eating into the market share of notebooks and netbooks at a consistent pace. The iPad is a marvelous tablet that has clearly changed the dynamics of the computer industry. When Apple launched AirPrint, there were only 12 printers compatible with the service, and all were from HP!
